Thread Veins

WHAT ARE THEY
Thread veins (telengectasia) or as they are commonly known ‘spider veins’ are small blood vessels that sit just underneath the skin. They can appear from the age of 20 just about anywhere on the body, but are more unsightly when present on the face and legs.
Red, purple or bluish in colour they rarely cause a health risk or pain unlike the larger varicose veins. They can be treated very successfully.

WHAT CAUSES THEM
They tend to get worse as we age and are thought to be the result of hereditary factors, prolonged sun exposure, trauma and hormonal changes such as pregnancy and the menopause.

TREATMENT OPTIONS

• Camouflage and reduce your sun exposure and protect your skin with a high SPF cream
• Sclerotherapy is the medical treatment of choice and gives the best all round results
• Lasers can also be useful

IS IT A PERMANENT TREATMENT
No. Usually require several treatment sessions and new veins may re occur.

OUR OPINION
Sclerotherapy is an excellent treatment for leg veins; laser treatment results are less predictable
