Rhinoplasty - Nose Job in Sheffield

A Rhinoplasty is commonly called a ‘Nose Job’

Rhino - means relating to the nose and Plasty - means to change the shape of something.

What is a Rhinoplasty or Nose Job ?

A Rhinoplasty is a surgical operation undertaken in order to change the shape of the nose. It is the commonest cosmetic operation performed on the face and equal numbers of both men and women have the operation. Although it may be seen as a common enough procedure it is a very challenging operation to perform and there are many different procedures that can be done to change the shape of the nose.

Which Procedure is right for my nose ?

There are many different procedures that can make a nose straighter, wider, shorter or narrower and commonly a nose job is used to remove a hump or bump on the boney part of the nose.

The operation may be done under local anaesthesia, with sedation or under a general anaesthetic. The majority of cases are performed utilising internal incisions that are hidden inside the nose, sometimes it is required to make an external incision in the columella (the partition between nostrils). This is called the open or external approach. It depends what needs to be done to the nose, for example, when there has been a previous operation or when placing a cartilage graft. A surgical rhinoplasty should only be performed by a specialist rhinoplasty surgeon who will discuss your expectations, the treatment options, risks and complications. We commonly see patients who have had a rhinoplasty procedure undertaken elsewhere who consult with our specialist rhinoplasty surgeon for a revision or re do of their first operation.

We would advise anyone considering a Rhinoplasty or Nose Job to have a Consultation with a Specialist Rhinoplasty Surgeon.

What is a Non Surgical Rhinoplasty?

This is a term used to change the shape of nose without the use of a scalpel or surgery. An injectable filler is used to create a lifting effect on the skin and in some cases this can appear to change smaller dips on the surface of the nose. We would certainly urge caution about this procedure, it is commonly promoted by beauticians in salons and may not give you a lasting cosmetic effect and may put you at risk, especially if you have already had an operation on your nose. If you are considering changing the shape of your nose we recommend that you consult with a Specialist Rhinoplasty Surgeon who is registered with the General Medical Council ( GMC ) has FRCS after the name and is on the GMC Specialist Register.

Who will my surgeon be ?

Your Consultation will be with Mr Aftab Ahmed FRCS. He has performed many rhinoplasty operations and regularly performs rhinoplasty in the NHS in his role as a Senior ENT Surgeon at Doncaster Hospital. Mr Ahmed sees his private rhinoplasty patients at Aesthetika Clinic in Sheffield, as minimum you will have 2 Consultations about 2 to 4 weeks apart, sometimes longer. Before any operation and after the consultations there is a Cooling Off period, it is not advisable to rush into any cosmetic surgery. If you are suitable for surgery the operation will take place at the Parkhill Hospital, Doncaster.

Is this a permanent change?

Yes. Surgery produces a permanent change.

T- box

he nose sets the character of a face. How it looks will ultimately affect the facial aesthetics of balance, proportion and perception not only to you but also to others. Despite being the most difficult of all Cosmetic Surgery techniques to perform it still remains the most popular of all surgical procedures on the face ranking first for men and in the top 5 for women. Our advice is to see an expert specialist Rhinoplasty Surgeon for a Consultation first and please do not to be lured by clever marketing hype into cheap No Frills Surgery.
