Would you know if that person who is about to inject you is a Registered Nurse?
According to the BBC investigation this woman is a bogus nurse, who was running an anti ageing clinic i Liverpool and describes herself as an aesthetic nurse practitioner, nurse prescriber and midwife.
However the BBC could not find her name on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Register, this is the list of the approx 700 thousand nurses and midwives who are legally practising in the UK. It is claimed that Maria McGinty has been injecting prescription only medicines ( POM ) used to reduce facial lines and wrinkles, commonly known as Botox and also the soft tissue expanders, which are often referred to as Dermal Fillers.
What is of grave concern to the Doctors and Nurses here at Aesthetika Clinic is what exactly has she been injecting and how did she obtain these products.
In a statement today Cheryl Barton our lead nurse has urged caution and asks anyone who is considering undergoing any cosmetic injectable treatment to ‘Check BEFORE They Inject’
Despite the media scare stories we are still very trusting of our Doctors and Nurses here in the UK, largely because of the NHS and the trust we have had in it over the past years. However the landscape on health is changing, many do not consider cosmetic injections as a Health or Medical Issue and believe its OK to undergo any injection treatment in a Hairdressing Salon by anyone who calls herself or himself a Practitioner, who was recommended as a friend of a friend. Never take it on Face Value that they are qualified or insured to treat you, despite what they may tell you.
The title Nurse is not protected in British Law therefore anyone can refer to themselves as a Nurse, Aesthetic Nurse or Nurse Practitioner, however the title Registered Nurse is protected so if you want to check that any nurse is a Registered Nurse a simple online check will tell you here check your nurse is a Registered Nurse
